Self-control is hard, but I'm sticking to my workout plan!

Confession time:  I'm am struggling to get back on track with my snacking!!!

Remember, "failure to plan..." I have a fridge stocked with great stuff, but I haven't put in the prep time and planning to get that good food into my belly.

Don't get me wrong, I'm doing alright.  I've knocked 3 pounds off the holiday weight-gain.  I am making healthier choices and meals are great.  However, I'm usually more of an all-or-nothing girl - if I give myself an inch, I take a mile.  So, these little snacks here and there are not going to keep me shedding the pounds!

I took the first steps to ridding the house of junk today.  I emptied the tempting half-empty bags of chips into individual serving sizes for my husband to take to work.  I also told him that I would like to re-arrange the cabinets to get his junk out of my eyesight.  Last, I need to get the Christmas cookies out of the house!

It was recommended during the #JustCrunchEm chat last night that I put a picture of Jillian Michaels with her best, "do it and die" face right on the box, and then we rolled off some great products to include her voice as a deterrent - it was genius! but I digress.

I have been tracking with myfitnesspal all week and, with the exception of yesterday, I have tracked all of my indulgences.  So, there's a non-scale victory for you!

Speaking of non-scale victories, I have mentioned before that I do not workout regularly.  I do a bit here and there and play pretty hard with the kiddos at times but, since winter has crushed my running, I haven't been sticking to any sort of plan.

I am proud to say that I have done the Biggest Loser Power X-Train video each day this week!  Including tonight, when I got home after 7 and had to kick my husband out of the living room while he was watching a movie.

I mapped out a plan in my planner and I have stuck to it!  The only day I took a break (recommended one day off) was when we took the little man to snocross (so much fun!) and I think I walked, did plenty of stairs, and carried him enough to burn some calories!  And... even though we came home smelling like fried food, I somehow managed to find a deli stand and ate a salad and half of my little guys ham sandwich!

So, things aren't perfect and I'm struggling a bit, but there are some major positives in there to offset that.  I'm pretty proud of sticking to the workout plan, and I am determined to keep it up for the month.  I've been meal planning today and plan to prep some healthy snacks tonight.

How have you been doing after the holidays?  Have you been able to get right back into the swing of things, or did you never let yourself get too off track? (If that's the case, you are my inspiration!)

  1. I'm doing much better and getting focused again but I started feeling sick yesterday (sore throat, cough) and the last night I had a touch of fever. I'm trying my best to battle this. I don't want to get sick and ruin my momentum. Before it got very bad, I did manage to go to Physical Therapy and an hour long walk. So better than nothing I suppose!

Good job de-junking the house. Excellent place to start!

  5. That is huge that you've worked out each day this week! That is a great NSV! Plus removing the junk food and preparing to be back on track is good. The holidays are tough, but it looks like you are well on your way to making 2014 be a treat year health wise!

  7. I am doing pretty good since the holidays at staying on track. My birthday was this weekend so with that out of the way I can now really focus on avoiding those sugary not-so-healthy snacks. I am back to work now and have done really well at packing my lunch (most days) and avoiding the cafeteria and vending machines. Like you said the key is to plan ahead. Last week I made a huge fruit salad to take to work with me and pre-portioned it out into smaller bowls for each day. Today I made a big salad that I will take for lunch several times this week.

Congrats on your 3 pound loss!

  9. I love that you're doing the biggest loser DVD's...they're so helpful. Also, last summer I did Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred...it was awesome and gave me the kick in the pants to start working out more regularly, having it be a 30 day challenge was also key because it gave me an end date to push for too.
